This two-storey watchtower forms part of a series of defense structures along the southern towns of Cebu that communicated with each other to warn coastal settlers of incoming Moro attacks.
Like the other watchtowers in Boljoon, the Baluarte sa Fuente was constructed under the supervision of Fr. Julian Bermejo. It was built in the 1880s.
This structure, a little farther away from Parish Complex, has an octagonal plan. It was built near the coast beside the path of a river that used to flow to the sea.
